Writing this letter to my son made me pause and ponder on what it means to be a cross-cultural person. Writing it was easy though. I was in the ‘free-writing’ mood and the words came straight from my heart. It was a letter I had always wanted to write, but had never taken the opportunity to put my wish into an actual action.
Writing the letter made me ruminate on all the aspects that I realised I appreciated about being multicultural, but also think about the tough parts of having been brought up in different countries.
At first I felt apprehensive sharing my letter here; on the world wide web. To me the online world feels more and more like a deceiving & untrustworthy entity. The letter is a personal one. Will it be (mis)used by AI or others? That’s one of the reasons it has taken me so long to finally upload the letter, but the book is anyways out in the world :-). So, from today onwards you can read the letter here too :).
